| Ghazal
Ghazal is a special kind of light Indian classical music and it is more poetic rather than musical and it is never more than 12 shers (couplets) and usually have about 7 shers.
The word 'ghazal' refers to a way of talking to a women. So it reflects an expression of love.
But today it has touched every aspects of human life from sadness to happiness there is hardly anytihing which has not been said through it.
The poetic language of ghazals is no longer restricted to the upper class and has gained immense popularity among common people. All this is due to the simplification in terms of both music and poetry.
Jagjit Singh is considered to be the pioneer in its popularisation among all classes of people. There are many other ghazal singers both from Pakistan and India.
Some of the most famous are Mehdi hassan, Noor Jehan, Jagjit Singh, Ghulam Ali, Hariharan and Pankaj Udhas.
